I removed the original outside wall that stood where the pendant lights now hang as part of an add-on to allow for the eating bar, a 15-ft wide breakfast room, and an indoor connection to a previously enclosed garage. The cabinets in the remodeled kitchen were from Ikea, and since the owners were okay with them, they served as my model for my cabinets. Floor to ceiling storage at the left and under the microwave and cookbooks features the same look. Doors and pulls as the originals. I bought the butcher block top and pulls at Ikea for an exact match. The hood and backsplash tie the range area in to the overall look. |

The glass doors to the storage cabinet and to the storage closet have a rice paper appliqué to obscure the view of the contents. The butcher block counter top, tile backsplash, and Ikea pulls continue the kitchen theme. |

The full-view French doors lead to the enclosed garage. Before the add-on was done, a trip to this room meant going outside and then back in. The flooring that runs throughout is a floating cork floor. |

A bank of five windows and the full-view French doors with sidelights give a great view of the backyard, decks, and raised pergola. (See "Outdoor Construction".) The built-in banquette allows for extra seating and storage below. What a great spot for a relaxed breakfast, or any other meal. |
